Accomplishments

 

  • Low-altitude survey (1,500 ft AGL) over the Greenland Ice Sheet.
  • ATM, albedo, KT-19, snow, Ku-band, accumulation, MCoRDS and DMS were operated on the survey lines.
  • Ramp pass at Kangerlussuaq at 2,000 ft AGL from north to south.
  • Satellite tracks: ICESat: 0181.

Mission Report (Michael Studinger, Mission Scientist)

Today's mission is a repeat of similar 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 IceBridge flights. The primary science objectives are to (a) complete the basic Jakobshavn grid, specifically the east-west lines, and (b) repeat longitudinal surveys of the Rink and Kangerdlugssup Glaciers. We also occupy a line connecting Swiss Camp and a pair of Eric Lutz-requested points nearby. We flew the main Jakobshavn centerline twice, once at normal speed and altitude, and again as low and slow as possible, for MCoRDS radar assessment. The first pass was at 1500 ft AGL and at 250 kts ground speed, the second pass was flown at 500 ft AGL and around 180 kts ground speed, both in the down glacier direction.

LiDAR data collection started 04/19/2014 11:18 UTC and ended at 17:25 UTC. In total we collected 6.1 hours of science data. Good data collection all day except for some minor clouds on the eastern end of the Jakobshavn grid.
