Mission Report (Michael Studinger, Mission Scientist)

Today's mission is a new mission, designed with several goals in mind. First, we reflew the OSU Cluster sites straddling the ice divide southeast of Kangerlussuaq. We also collected data over the centerline of Helheim Glacier from the terminus all the way to the ice divide, and we reoccupied a ~15-km grid pattern over the lower Helheim catchment last flown by the ATM/KU teams in 2008. Finally we collected data over four PROMICE sites straddling the mouth of Sermilik Fjord, and we flew over the DYE-3 core.

At 16:08 Zulu we aborted the mission as a precaution and returned to Kangerlussuaq. We only had two more lines to fly on the 15 km grid and were able to collect data from high altitude on the way back (see Fig. 1). We encountered some low clouds in the Kulusuk area as expected that had some minor impacts on the ATM and DMS data.

LiDAR data collection started 04/12/2014 10:51 UTC and ended at 17:19 UTC. In total we collected 6.5 hours of science data.
