Accomplishments

  • Low-altitude survey (1,500 ft AGL) over the Penny Ice Cap on Baffin Island.
  • ATM, snow and Ku-band radars, and DMS were operated on the survey lines.
  • Ramp pass at Kangerlussuaq Airport at 1,500 ft AGL for ATM and radar calibration.
  • Conducted pitch maneuvers over the fjord for snow and Ku-band radar time stamp verification.
  • Satellite Tracks: ICESat 0160, 0041, 0413, 0294, 0271, 0390, 0018.
  • Repeat Mission: 1995, 2000, and 2005.

This mission repeats survey lines over the Penny Ice Cap previously surveyed by the ATM/KU teams in 1995, 2000, and 2005, and adds several new lines along ICESat ground tracks over the ice cap.

The weather over the Penny Ice Cap was perfect. Some small pockets with moderate turbulence here and there due to the 20 kts winds. We collected 1.5 hours of high altitude (18,000 ft) data over sea ice with ATM and DMS to and from the survey area.

Low altitude data collection started 11:59 UTC and ended at 15:32 UTC, 4.5 hours. We collected a total of 6.0 hours of science data.
