Accomplishments

 

  • Low-altitude survey (1,500 ft AGL) over the Greenland Ice Sheet.
  • ATM, albedo, KT-19, snow, Ku-band, accumulation, MCoRDS and DMS were operated on the survey lines.
  • Satellite tracks: ICESat 0055, 0017, 0270, 0412 and future ICESat-2 lines near Summit Station.

Mission Report (Michael Studinger, Mission Scientist)

Today's mission was new mission, designed to accomplish a number of high-priority tasks. First, we reflew the van den Broeke “K-Transect” in the Russell Glacier catchment, consisting of several sites where comprehensive glaciological measurements are collected annually. We also collected data along the EGIG traverse line, which is expected to be occupied as part of the CryoVEx effort in spring 2014. We flew over the ICESat-1 track 412 Summit calibration site, and we flew two ICESat-2 groundtracks in the same area near Summit, with the expectation that these will become regular calibrations sites as well. Finally, we extended the coverage of the Jakobshavn basin upstream along ICESat-1 tracks, to capture continued inland progression of thinning there.

The weather in the survey area was mostly good. We lost insignificant amounts of laser data due to low clouds along the coastal areas. We started climbing to high altitude on the way home over Jakobshavn due to the turbulence in the area.
 
LiDAR data collection started 04/10/2014 10:43 UTC and ended at 17:50 UTC. In total we collected 7.1 hours of science data.
