Comments: | Science flight #15 was flown to the Atlantic Ocean, east of the Bahamas. Three areas of interest were targeted at 20k ft. At the first area, N26 W75, a 40 nm Box pattern was flown over clear air with 1 sonde dropped in the middle of the diagonal leg. DAWN reported very good data. The 2nd area, N25.8, W72.7, another 40 nm box was flown over an area of convection. This box had 2 sonde drops, middle of southbound leg and middle of northbound leg. A repeat was done with the instructions to adjust legs as needed to keep area of convection inside the box. Four passes were made thru in and around the convection before repeating box 2. A repeat of the clear air box, box 1, was done then RTB was initiated. Seven dropsondes in total were launched with all 7 reaching sea surface. All instrument teams reported satisfactory data acquisitions. |
