Comments: | Science flight #11 was flown to the Caribbean Sea south of the Cayman Islands. Clockwise box patterns were flown starting at NE corner of boxes at FL310. First box was 40 nm for clear air. Once complete, 2nd box SE of 1st box was requested at FL370. Aircraft flew one box pattern followed by a ladder pattern to the north w 40 nm north legs. On the 3rd rung of the ladder, Science requested to perform 'Simone spaghetti' pattern over observed convection for APR-2 with supporting sondes. Return to FLL via west end of Cuba with descent to FL200. Once at point west of Cuba (N24.3, W86.0) collect DAWN data along N25 then direct to FLL. DAWN window fogged over and was defrosted with heater. Twenty dropsondes in total were launched with half reaching sea surface. All instrument teams reported satisfactory data acquisitions. |
