Comments:ACCESS sampling training flight Airworthy MFLL, CO2/O2 Sounder, LAS, AVOCET, Piccaro all operated with positive post flight performance reports. Broadband lidar operated but in a degraded state due to an internal instrument component vibration issue. No report on LaRC Falcon aircraft instrument suite performance. This was an add on to the ASCENDS2013 Instrument Engineering Check mission flight. Flight transitioned to ACCESS sampling training flight as aircraft entered R2515. Shutter all lidars while transitioning R2515 and while performing close range (1000 ft or less) ACCESS sampling training with LaRC Falcon. DC-8, generating contrails, and Falcon joined at time 01 13 04 at FL330 while in R2508 above Isabella MOA and while flying a north/south track between Mojave Airport and Bishop Airport. Falcon initially moved aft and descended to fly sampling position behind DC-8 at about the 1000 ft trail position. Both aircraft climbed to FL340 to maintain contrail generation at time 01 30 30 and Falcon moved to positions greater than 1000 ft in trail of the DC-8. Training event was completed at time 01 48 00 and both aircraft returned to Palmdale. All Lidars were operated while Falcon was greater than 1000 ft in trail of DC-8. Mission accomplished as planned.
