The aerosol surface area and abundances of longer lived gases O3, NOy, H2O, and CH4 are specified from ER-2 observations (empirically derived relations with N2O are used for NOy, H2O, and CH4 when measurements are unavailable). The abundances of Cly and Bry are specified from relations with N2O derived from measurements of source gases; the abundances of CO and C2H6 are derived from earlier ER-2 measurements (Murphy et al., JGR, 98, 8751, 1993) and DC-8 Whole Air Sampler measurements (Don Blake, private communication, 1993), respectively. Reaction rates and absorption cross sections are from DeMore et al. (1992). The reaction N2O5+H2O->2HNO3 is assumed to proceed with a reaction efficiency of 0.10; the reaction CLNO3+H2O->HOCL+HNO3 is assumed to proceed with the rate given by Hanson and Ravishankara, JGR, 96, 17307, 1991.
