[1997]. We use a dG = 0.0 . This term has never represented a delay from the surface to the tropopause. It contains spatial information about transport from the surface interhemispheric gradient. Total organic chlorine (CCly) was calculated from LACE in-situ measurements of CFC-11, CFC-12, CFC-113, CH3CCl3, and CCl4. Contributions to CCly from CH3Cl and HCFC-22 (not measured by LACE) were calculated from their correlations with tracers measured by LACE. Total organic bromine (CBry) was calculated from LACE in-situ measurements of halon-1211. Contributions to CBry from CH3Br, halon-2402, halon-1301, CH2Br2, and CH2BrCl (not measured by LACE) were calculated from their correlations with tracers measured by LACE using the formula in Wamsley et al. [1997]. The total chlorine (TotalCl) and total bromine (TotalBr) content of each sampled air mass was calculated from the documented tropospheric trends of chlorinated and brominated trace gases (e.g., Montzka et al., [1996]) and a calculated mean age spectrum from Hall & Plumb, 1994. Total inorganic chlorine (Cly) and total inorganic bromine (Bry) were calculated as TotalCl-CCly and TotalBr-CBry, respectively.
